Papa George Wooten, 93, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 26, 2016. He was born on July 4, 1923 in Troy, Texas to Rollie E. and Beatrice Wooten and has lived in the Coachella Valley for 91 years.
In WWII he served in the U.S.C.G. as a Seaman 1st Class from 12/7/42 until 1/9/46. On 9/23/1945 he was aboard the USS Cambria docked in Nagasaki Japan just after the surrender document was signed on 9/2/45 on the USS Missouri.
He began his career with Imperial Irrigation District in 1950 as a lineman and retired in 1985 as General Foreman. He is preceded in death by wife Charlotte and son John W. (Johnny). He is survived by his sister Betty Fisher, daughter Joanie Ahuna, Grandsons Derric Teran (Gracie), Christopher Wooten (Crystal), and Great Grandchildren Peyton and Colin Wooten, J.R. Lara and Lisa Fuentes. He will be loved and missed by us all.
A memorial service will be held graveside at Coachella Valley Cemetery on Tuesday, December 6th at 12:00PM. FitzHenry-Wiefels Indio has been entrusted with arrangements.
